As many of you know, buying loads of hunting equipment is only the first part of the deal. All those items will be of little use to you if left at home, but you only have two hands which you also need to shoot. What’s a well-stocked hunter to do? Get themselves a hunting bag, of course. There are dozens of varieties of hunting gear bags of all shapes and sizes imaginable. And depending on how much you are willing to take, you can choose between portable messenger bags and roomy tactical bags.
What qualities should be present in a good hunting bag or backpack? You might have different priorities, but there are several features we recommend not to overlook. You need a bag with well-designed internal compartments to keep your hunting gear organized. Your bag should also be durable enough to withstand the weight of everything stored. External and side pockets are a question of personal preference, but it might be more convenient to put something small in the external pocket to reach it any time without stopping to unzip your bag. If you prefer hunting wearing camo (which we strongly recommend), your bag or backpack shouldn’t disrupt your disguise. Tactical bags are usually designed in color close to those of camo, which makes them a reasonable choice to complement your hunting outfit.
Now about the options you have. The first thing that comes to mind is a hunting backpack. The obvious benefit is the place of wearing: backpacks leave both of your hands free and distribute the weight evenly. Backpacks come in many sizes and layouts, with or without external pockets, so the choice here is quite varied. Duffle bags are another variant that deserves your attention. Even though such bags are carried in one hand, they are much quicker to grab or leave. That is a significant advantage in cases when you need to aim while prone or prefer to hunt from a blind. Your tactical range bags will fit the occasion as well, in case you want one bag for multiple purposes.
