The story of Savage starts in 1894 with the foundation of Savage Repeating Arms Co. (later Savage Arms) by Arthur William Savage. In the 1880s, he got enthusiastic about designing guns, and in 1887, he came up with a lever-action rifle with a magazine in the stock. In 1991, he patented his design, and three years later, he received a patent for a striker-fired mechanism.
A year after the foundation, Savage combined the two of Arthur’s inventions and introduced the Model 1895, the first hammerless lever-action rifle. The model won the competition and was almost adopted by the New York National Guard, but the political controversy resulted in contract cancellation.
The legendary Savage Model 99 was derived from Model 95. The company even offered the owners of Model 1895 to convert their rifles into Model 99. Thanks to the rotating magazine design of the latter that allowed the use of more accurate and kinetically efficient spitzer bullets, Model 99 became extremely popular with big game hunters.

The Backcountry Xtreme series includes Savage hunting rifles that combine accuracy at elevations and long distances and power, hard-hitting large and stout game. The Savage 110 Timberline and 110 Ultralite are great bolt-action rifles for hunting, and they come in the right- and left-hand variants.
The Savage Impulse straight-pull rifle ensures fast and precise long-range shooting and comes chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, 30-06 Spfld, .308 Win, .300 Win Mag, and other calibers. The series includes hog, predator, and deer rifles. The Savage Backcountry Xtreme rifles are equipped with AccuFit technology that allows stock adjustment for increased comfort and precision.
