The 14.5" Pencil is how you build the lightest legal 16" rifle: pin and weld a flash hider and you have a carbine that handles like an SBR, weighs what a Pencil weighs, and needs no paperwork. The profile tapers to .525" behind a 1.1" gas journal and .500" ahead of it, so the barrel weighs 1.15 lb. It is not a benchrest profile and does not pretend to be, but a stress-relieved, air-gauged, 100% wet-MPI-inspected 4150 CMV barrel shoots MOA with ammunition it likes and shrugs off far more use than a thin barrel is supposed to. Mid-length gas keeps it soft. It is machined from 4150 CMV in Greater Cincinnati, button rifled 1:8, salt-bath nitrided inside and out, and shipped with its M4 extension installed and headspaced.
