When the US Special Operations Command put out a request for a Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) to replace the MP5, Sig Sauer responded with the MCX Rattler, an absolutely groundbreaking short barrel rifle. The Rattler is based on Sig Sauer's flagship MCX modular rifle, featuring its short-stroke recoil gas piston operating system. What separates Sig Sauer's MCX platform from other AR/M4 style rifles is the recoil system that totally eliminates the need for a buffertube, making the MCX Rattler more compact than any AR/M4 rifle ever produced.
The MCX Rattler is available in .300 Blackout, 5.56 NATO, and 7.62x39mm, with each chambering being offered in both pistol and SBR variations. The SBR versions come with a folding minimalist stock, but this can be upgraded with a wide array of other stocks. These replacement stocks can also be used to convert the pistol versions into SBRs (with the proper paperwork). All variations of the MCX Rattler come with a full-length picatinny rails and M-LOK attachment points for customization and also feature a 2-position gas regulator for suppressed or unsuppressed fire.
