This rifle has all the proven accuracy that is built into the DNA of the Winchester XPR plus the addition of a threaded barrel that makes it easy to add a suppressor. What makes this rifle unique is the shorter barrel that offsets some of the length that comes from adding a suppressor. Conversely, the threading also allows the mounting of a muzzle brake when recoil is your concern.
The heart of accuracy in any rifle is found in the barrel - the better the barrel, the better the accuracy. XPR barrels begin as a piece of solid chromoly steel bar stock. It's carefully drilled and then precisely button-rifled to produce outstanding accuracy. The button-rifling process also serves to burnish the interior surface of the barrel so each of the lands and grooves has a smoother finish. In turn, this burnishing serves to increase velocity while decreasing bullet jacket fouling. Every XPR barrel is also thermally stress-relieved to ensure straight and true accuracy. The barrel is fully free-floating to eliminate accuracy robbing pressure points where it might come in contact with the stock. This is especially important when the rifle might be subjected to variations in temperature or humidity. By floating the barrel, it is allowed to freely vibrate at its own frequency during the passage of each bullet.
The tack-driving performance of the XPR is further enhanced with the M.O.A. Trigger System. This precision, three-lever trigger is the same design as that found on Winchester's top-end Model 70. In addition to adjustable pull weight, this trigger offers zero tack-up, zero creep, and zero overtravel.
The advanced polymer stock is built for superior grip in a variety of conditions and will stand up to the scratches and bumps you're bound to encounter on the stalk or on the walk to the stand. The matte black Perma-Cote finish is tough and non-reflective. The detachable box magazine is a built in feature that is typically an expensive after-market addition, allowing you to keep extra cartridges in a spare magazine for easy reloading instead of jingling loose in your pocket.
