We're luckier than our ancestors had to hunt and fish in footwear that didn't hold up against extreme weather conditions. When leather boots became easier and cheaper to manufacture, more people could afford and use them as hunting footwear. However, they still couldn’t deal with continuous exposure to moisture. Then rubber boots came, but while rubber allows literally no water from the outside, walking in such footwear is far from effortless.
But then, in the 30s, to be specific, neoprene was invented, and it was a true revolution in the waterproof apparel industry. Manufacturers of outdoor clothing and footwear and survival equipment quickly took it on board producing waterproof duck hunting boots, fishing boots, wetsuits, waders, and other gear.
Rocky Brands was one of such companies deciding to master the craft of neoprene. Twenty years after the revolutionary invention, Alaskans still had to fight severe weather conditions with regular footwear that couldn’t ensure an adequate level of comfort and protection. So the company decided to launch the first series of Xtratuf boots designed to withstand cold water, snow, and low temperatures. The first design they built was the Xtratuf Legacy boots.
About Xtratuf Boots
To most people, the brand is known for Xtratuf deck boots marketed for sport and commercial fishing. However, it doesn’t mean you can’t use Xtratuf rain boots for other applications like geese and duck hunting in damp, muddy conditions. Wouldn’t it be great if you had 100% waterproof, easy-to-clean boots that flex and allow for more mobility? You can go with Xtratuf deck ankle boots, like those from the Xtratuf Wheelhouse series, if you don’t expect water coming more than ankle-high, or choose tall boots for heavily slush and muddy environments. If you’re searching for Xtratuf women’s boots, have a look at the Xtratuf Salmon Sister collaboration series. Need winter hunting boots? Try Xtratuf insulated boots like those from the Legacy series. But don’t think the brand is only about fun colors and classic brown models because there also are Xtratuf camo boots with Mossy Oak patterns.
