John Marlin, the founder of the company, designed the brand’s first lever-action repeating rifle the Model 1881. Its successor, the Model 1895, currently known as Marlin 336 Dark, remained in production until very recently, which is quite a term for a single model. The former has also given rise to the 1894 Marlin rifle - the first of its kind with a flat-top, side-eject receiver.
