Mayville Engineering Company

Ted Bachhuber was an avid outdoors person and an experienced trap shooter, and, like many other shotgun shooters of that period, he reloaded his ammo. So he knew from experience what reloading tools and accessories should be to meet the needs best.

In 1945, Ted and his uncle Leo rented a garage near Mayville’s Main Street (Wisconsin) and started Mayville Engineering Company. The company’s assets were poor, but Ted and Leo compensated for it with loads of ideas and entrepreneurial zeal. Originally, MEC manufactured tools, dies, and special machinery and provided engineering services to larger manufacturers.

By 1955, MEC outgrew its garage facilities and local reloading market and entered the global market. The international reloader community immediately acknowledged the company’s high-value products, which is evidenced by the MEC 600 Jr. reloader sold over two million copies worldwide.

Today, MEC manufactures mechanical, electronic, and hydraulic reloaders, clay target machines, and numerous shotgun shell reloading accessories.

MEC Reloaders

MEC still manufactures its flagship MEC 600 Jr. It’s a single-stage reloader capable of reloading 4-6 boxes per hour. It’s fitted with a Cam-Action crimp die that returns each shell into its original position and a Spindex Crimp Starter that consistently ensures a perfect crimp. You can fit the MEC 600 Jr with the primer feeder. Gritr Sports carries the 600 Jr. Mec shotshell reloaders in 12, 20, and other popular gauges.

At Gritr Sports, you can also purchase MEC progressive reloader - the MEC 9000GN. The reloader automatically moves each shell through the six stations with a simple stroke of the handle. The machine is fitted with a fully automatic primer feed. With the 9000GN, you can reload 12-16 boxes of shell per hour.

The MEC 9000HN features a hydraulic pump and hose for highest-volume, highest-speed reloading. The operator only needs to insert the empty shell and wads, and the reloader does the rest, automatically moving the shell through all six stages.
