Derived from another renowned rifle, .223 Remington, this caliber was standardized as the second standard rifle cartridge for NATO forces. .308 Magazines

The two-for-one caliber, .308 Winchesters shares the dimensions with another crowd pleaser, 7.62x51mm NATO. The two cartridges are identical enough to be loaded into rifles chambered for the other round. Such versatility didn’t affect the variety of magazines fit for housing these rounds.
