German engineering became a synonym to mechanical brilliance a long time ago, and not without a reason. You may take any industrial sector and find a German company amidst its leaders. The firearm industry is no different. Although you’ve probably heard about SIG Sauer, a firearm company that has German roots, there is another brand, less popular with regular shooters due to the product prices. But there is something behind those five-digit numbers. Unmatched quality and safety justify any price tag. That company’s name is Blaser.

Blaser is no rookie in the field of firearm production: the company has been in business since 1957. There is a very intimate story behind its foundation. Horst Blaser worked as a mere driver but fell in love with a daughter of a wealthy gunsmith. Her father told Blaser that the only way for him to marry his daughter was to become a gunsmith and earn enough money to provide for the family. That was exactly what Horst did: founded his own company and introduced an innovative combination of a rifle and a shotgun of his design. The firearm got the name Diplomat and became the first step towards an innovative course that Blase follows to this day.

1993 was another milestone in the company's history, for that was the year when the renowned Blaser R93 was released. Calling it an outside-of-the-box rifle would be deficient since it featured a completely innovative straight-pull bolt-action design. The bolt could be cycled back and forward without rotation of the handle, a feature none other bolt-action rifles could boast. It was also a modular rifle, which could change calibers in minutes with close to no effort. A huge success on the European market, it was discontinued in 2017. But it didn’t fall into oblivion with no heirs. Blaser R8 has inherited the crown of the company’s signature rifle and continues the line of high-echelon straight-pull bolt-action rifles.
