The unique Dissipator M4 places the front sight base in the rifle length position to make optimal use of the full sight radius designed into the original M16A2 Rifle. And for highest reliability, the gas system functions with a low profile gas block in the carbine position under the rifle length handguards which help "dissipate" barrel heat. You get the advantages of a rifle in a compact carbine platform.
